A craft beer festival in Toronto will be the first Canadian event to allow attendees to smoke cannabis. The festival is taking place from June 21 – 23 and will be located downtown on the West Island of Ontario Place. 29 craft brewers, 10 food vendors 7 bands and one “potio”.
While festival-goers won’t be able to able to smoke cannabis freely, there will be a special cannabis only smoking lounge to accommodate those who want to take a break from the beers and spark a joint.
The Toronto Craft Beer Festival is collaborating on this initiative with HotBox Holdings and Detonate Cannabis Agency.
“We want to offer people a place to come down from the beer. You don’t have to consume cannabis to experience our creative, chill and vibrant POTio,” said Abi Roach, founder of HotBox Holdings, owner of the infamous HotBox Cafe and player of Ontario’s cannabis retail lottery.
By restricting cannabis use to the dedicated lounge, the festival can obey the law and still cater to those who want to enjoy both craft beer and cannabis.
“What better way to optimize on a sensory experience than by adding some cannabis to the mix?” said Tony Millar, founder of Toronto’s Craft Beer Festival.
As we head into the first summer of cannabis legalization in Canada, hopefully, we begin to see a lot more outdoor events take cannabis consumers into consideration.
